Bury Me in Vegan Leather
Los Angeles is on fire, and there's a head in a stylish farmhouse sink. Hard-up dirtbag P.I. Barbara "Bobby" Sockett is in the unfortunate position of discovering the body of the twentysomething kid she's been paid to track down and in the even more damning position of becoming a suspect. The kid's aging ingenue mother, Diana Vasquez, seems a little too blasé about her dead son, and her famous arthouse producer husband, Louis Lazarus, sets off Bobby's alarm bells. Did she get hired as a patsy for the murder?
Despite her best efforts to stay out of the fight, the cat keeps dragging clues to her doorstep, throwing her deeper into the L.A. sprawl of runaway nepo babies, devious car dealers, money-laundering rehab clinics, Scandinavian animators, Armenian princess detectives, and one particularly fried electro DJ hellbent on a glorious comeback. Adding another log on the fire, Bobby's half-sister resurfaces, stirring some not-so-nice memories she thought she extinguished long ago. Now Bobby's gotta solve the murder, clear her name, and try to salvage a stunning number of burned bridges and dead relationships, armed only with a mysterious recording and a drunk's bus pass. If she can make her next student loan payment before the city turns to dust, that'd be great, too.
